There are 5 lessons in this physics tutorial covering Stars. The tutorial starts with an introduction to Stars and is then followed with a list of the separate lessons, the tutorial is designed to be read in order but you can skip to a specific lesson or return to recover a specific physics lesson as required to build your physics knowledge of Stars. you can access all the lessons from this tutorial below.

In this Physics tutorial, you will learn:

  • What are stars? What are some of their general features? What about the Sun?
  • What is illumination produced by a star? How does it relate to light flux?
  • What is apparent magnitude? Why do we use it?
  • Why do we take absolute illumination as a reference value?
  • What is absolute magnitude? What does it indicate?
  • How to find the surface temperature of stars?
  • What does the Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram indicate about stars?
  • What are the major groups of stars in the Universe?
  • What are some atypical stars and why do we call them so?

Introduction

Everybody knows from experience that stars are bright spots visible only in the night sky. This does not mean stars do not exist during the day; rather, the powerful sunlight prevails over the weak illumination the stars produce. As a result, we are not able to spot them in the presence of sunlight.

In this tutorial, we will explain some basic features of stars including the classification of stars, their illumination, mass, temperature, life stages, etc. These are very important info when dealing with the birth of universe and its stages.
